Heart to Heart with Teresa Hsu (心連心 ~ 许哲) - Part 1

Introduction + Chapter 1

  • “In my vocabulary, there is no such word as ‘old’ and ‘retired’.” (2011, she is 114 ages)

“Compassion and love constitute non-violence inaction. They are the source of all spiritual qualities: forgiveness, tolerance and all the virtues. They give meaning to our activities and make them constructive. There is nothing amazing about being rich or highly educated; only when the individual has a warm hearth do these attributes become worthwhile”.
– H.H. Dalai Lama

  • She answers questions in such lighting response time and speed that you will soon forget that you are in the company of a super-centenarian.

  • Another uplifting emotion she exudes is her omnipresent expression of gratefulness as to how blessed she is for being able to care for others.

  • “I will do all I can within my power to make that the basic needs of my fellow brothers and sisters are meet!” That vow was uttered in 1905 when Teresa Hsu was about 7 years old – Teresa had an awakening from experience of eating grass to quell her hunger.

  • Another unique characteristic trait of Teresa is that she is an eager learner – time and age do not pose as a hindrance or deterrent!

  • But perhaps what is of great interest of many is her simple yet enriching life filled with love, magnanimity, joy and good health!

  • Her whole life personifies “simplicity” filled with much love, kindness and generosity.

“Doing good is the only certainly happy action of a man’s life.”
– Sir Philip Sidney

“Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”
– John Wesley (Founder of Methodism, 1703-1791)

“Man is not an earth solely for his own happiness. He is there to realize great things for humanity.”
– Vincent Van Gogh
